"Is this heaven...?"

"...it's Iowa"

To those who are used to light-hearted a-political blogs, they will return after these messages.

Iowa- The Iowa Supreme Court ruled Friday, April 3rd, that a law banning same sex marriage was unconstitutional, making it the third state to legalize same sex marriage.

I think this is awesome; although I am sure there is a fair number of people who disagree with me. Personally, I have never understood the rationale that some people have for defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman. Whether it is stemmed from devout religious beliefs, or general xenophobia, it always seems as though people who are against it feel as if same-sex marriage is some sort of personal assault on our collective decency.

I guess that is what bothers me most about this point of view, people still feel that it is ok to classify and discuss homosexuality as if it were some sort of deviant social behavior that an individual chooses to act upon. Moreover, there is an unconscious social-deviance associated with homosexuality inherently ingrained in American culture. This type of ignorance frustrates me in ways that I cannot even begin to articulate, and though we can't immediately change the inherent negative connotations we can actively make progress by consciously remembering not to classify homo-sexuals as second-class-citizens, nor limiting their rights as such.

Legally dictating any American's right to love another should be considered a slap in the face of each and every one of us. Not only is legislation that limits or classifies marriage as, "a union between a man and a woman," in violation of the constitution, it's a breach of the very core beliefs that our country was found upon.

To those who are uncomfortable or even outright against homosexuality, this is not a question of personally accepting it as right or wrong, it is a collective reaffirmation of our belief in the mantra "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness."

-If you are against gay marriage, then don't go to gay weddings.
